Forgive me Steve Jobs for I have sinned (apparently)

It seems Apple have backstabbed me twice in as many months.
I recently bought the 3rd generation iPod Nano without knowledge of the 4th generation around the corner. This normally wouldn't sway me but the fact that my version is a square model (1st and 2nd were rectangular) and now the 4th generation has reverted back to the rectangluar shape means that I appear to have the runt of the Nano family! To pour salt into the wound, they released the 4th generation 1 week after I bought my 3rd generation version!
The reason I bought a Nano was to take advantage of the Nike+ technology - trust me, if there was an alternative to Apple products I would have used it. Over 3 weeks use so far so good, the 4th generation release hasn't bothered me that much and iTunes has a decent selection of Nike workouts and running track mixes available (which are the only things I buy from iTunes - the rest come from 7digital). However, having read iTunes store shutdown feared, which reveals that Apple are considering shutting down iTunes due to a dispute over copyright costs, has infuriated me beyond belief! This means I'll have an obselete, proprietary MP3 player which I would have otherwise avoided!
Steve, I have tried to embrace the Apple culture - why have you stabbed me in the back....twice?
