New Year: New Goals
Posted: 9th January 2008
Happy New Year to all!
Yes, I know its late but better that than never I suppose. I hope you all enjoyed yourselves, received lots of goodies and ate yourself to near death (I certainly did).
For the past few years I have set myself resolutions but I have never actually carried them through - usually because something more exciting has happened to distract me. However this year is going to be different as I have come up with a series of life-improvement challenges for myself. Timelines are not being used, rather a deadline of the next New Year's Eve.
So, in no particular order, here they are:
- Learn the guitar -Katie very generously gave me a guitar for Christmas so I intend the make the most of it!
- Learn C++ - again....I learnt this at university but I barely remember any of it. If I intend to one day be working in games development, this will be essential.
- Learn AJAX - its hard to find a website that doesn't use this technology so its probably best that I learn it.
- Become a competent independent climber - rather than "get fit" this will allow me to focus on something specific that is also fun to do. Katie and I have already booked courses in climbing so that we can go anywhere we want.
- Run another half-marathon - the annual Great Manchester Run is fun but I think I need a bigger challenge again and this is the next step up.
- Pass my SCJP exam - the exam is very soon and I hope I pass it.
Other things to do this year, including updating this website, will obviously come to mind later on but rest assured I intend to keep myself busy this year. Expect some major changes in the near future!
