Tutorials and a few other changes (that you won't see)

Posted: 22nd November 2008

I've finally found a gap in my schedule to implement a couple of things I've been meaning to do for a while. One change is to implement a sitemap.xml for Google so it can index the site better in its search results. For you that won't mean anything - it's purely a web administration issue.

The other change however is a big one and does affect you. You may have noticed the extra tab in the menu called Tutorials. It has been an ambition of mine to teach the skills I have learnt to others but I've not (until now) found an appopriate medium to publish this knowledge. So I now formally introduce my web development tutorials - these are intended for people who are starting out from scratch and have no budget. It will include common concepts shared by many web developers and a few personal preferences/observations (these will be highlighted). I will attempt to update this on a weekly basis (more frequently if possible) as it is dependent on me actually writing a draft before publishing them. Visitors can also post comments asking any question they like and I will endeavour to respond to your queries. On a final note, I originally decided that I didn't want to use adverts on a personal site but I feel I need to get something back (on top of the warm fuzzy feeling that I am helping others) for my efforts. As a result I have placed GoogleAds on the tutorial pages - they shouldn't be too invasive. However, if you would like to donate anything, let me know and I'll get round to setting up a PayPal donation fund.
