Portfolio Item: Interaction Design for Entertainment Software (MSc Games Software Development)
This module is aimed at teaching general design concepts for games that are made today. It is assessed by the submission of a prototype for a new game developed in groups of about four (a mixture of animators and programmers). This module is tied with the MA Graphics and Animation course. My group consisted of one animator (Emile Albeer) and three programmers (Tari Tebepah, Yasantha Prabath and myself).
The game we pitched was The Adventures of Professor Photon: Lost in Time. The background story to this game was that the protaganist loses components of his hastily made time machine across the world and different time periods. In this 3D platformer the player must retrieve all the items lost. It is a game aimed at the casual market and with a particular focus on younger audiences by using cartoonic styles, stereotypical behaviour and appearances of the levels and a slightly educational aspect. The prototype is being developed using the Unreal engine.
The prototype is now complete and was pitched on 20th January 2010 receiving a very positive response.
The development team involved the following:
Myself - Project Leader, Level Designer
Emile Albeer - Artist
Tariuge Tebepah - Sound
Yasantha Meegodage - Sound
